Dance Classes Vs. Dance Workshops - Which Is Better?
Nov 24, 2023
ZIND Academy offers weekly, structured dance classes for kids 5 years all the way to adults. In the last few years, we started weekly dance workshops with a different instructor and style. These workshops are designed to be low commitment, focused on having fun, meeting people and getting in some movement in a judgement free space for dance lovers. "Dance workshops" and "dance classes" are terms often used in the context of dance education, but they can refer to slightly different formats and structures. Here's a general distinction between the two:
-
Dance Classes:
- Regular Schedule: Dance classes typically follow a regular schedule, with classes held weekly or multiple times a week. They are often part of a structured program with a set curriculum. All our classes are focused on growing skills, building confidence and working towards performances.
- Progressive Learning: Classes are designed to provide a progressive learning experience. Students start with the basics and gradually advance to more complex movements and techniques over time.
- Consistency: The focus is on regular and consistent attendance, allowing students to build skills gradually and develop a strong foundation in the chosen dance style.
- Longer Duration: Classes may run for an extended period, such as a semester or dance season, allowing for sustained learning and improvement.
-
Dance Workshops (at ZIND):
- Condensed Sessions: Workshops are typically condensed compared to regular classes. We are more focused on having fun and moving rather than honing on technique and performance based feedback.
- Specialized Styles: Workshops often cover specialized topics, techniques, or styles. They might delve into a specific dance style with a new, experienced instructor.
- Short-Term Commitment: Participants may attend workshops as a short-term commitment, providing an opportunity to learn some moves without the long-term commitment of a regular class.
- Varied Audience: Workshops may attract a diverse range of participants, including those with varying levels of dance experience.
Considerations:
- Skill Level: Both classes and workshops can cater to beginners, intermediate, or advanced dancers. However, our workshops are more geared towards beginners and those looking to try something new or get back into dancing.
- Goals: Classes are often geared towards comprehensive skill development, while workshops may be designed to achieve specific, targeted goals.
- Time Commitment: Classes require a more sustained time commitment, while workshops are often more flexible and suitable for those with busy schedules.
Ultimately, whether you choose dance classes or workshops depends on your preferences, goals, and the time you can commit to your dance journey. Some dancers benefit from a combination of both, using regular classes for foundational learning and workshops to explore specific interests or techniques in more detail.
