Why "One More Time" Is Always A Lie

I'm pretty sure I am notorious for this in the classes I have taught. It's creeping up to the end of the class, and I am trying to push students to tap into their energy reserves. I'm using my own language, but I know my students understand exactly what I'm talking about.

However, there are some things every dance teacher says across the globe. I can say with full confidence that when a dance teacher yells out "one more time!", it's never the truth. It's, of course, always with good intention, but don't expect him/her to follow through.

When a dance teacher says "one more time," it typically means they want the students to repeat the dance sequence or specific steps a few more times before they leave. It's not just about perfecting the moves; it's an unspoken secret dance initiation ritual.

Precision Party: Your dance teacher's inner perfectionist is throwing a precision party, and your feet are the VIP guests. Sorry, not sorry. It's only because we know our students' potential even when they don't, and we want them to get as close to it as they possibly can every class.

Memory Marathon: It's not just a dance; it's a memory marathon! The chances of you going back home and practicing this every day for the rest of the week are slim. Your teacher wants your muscles to remember the routine so well that you can't forget it.

Consistency Chronicles: In the dance world, consistency is the dance floor's best friend. Your teacher wants the group to look like a synchronized squad and not a confused conga line.

Correction Comedy: If your teacher has given you more corrections than a GPS, saying "one more time" is like saying, "Let's see if you can dance without me yelling 'left foot!' every five seconds."

I'll be honest; as a dance teacher, if we don't see students in sync or if we just changed a step or two or if we just want to see our idea come to life again, you better believe you'll be doing the dance "one more time" another 3 - 4 times. It's all part of the dance life, my friend.
