Returning Back To Dance After A Hiatus?

Our  Bollywood adult class is one of our fastest growing classes. In fact, we had to split the group into two separate classes recently due to the increase in students. Most of these students are former dancers who had dance training growing up or in college but had to take a pause when life got busy. We see a lot of adults returning to their passion and love for dance but have hesitations that they are not as well versed as they once were. Our adult beginner class is a perfect place to start if you've been out of the game for a few years and don't know where to start. It's a judgement free zone and gives you the freedom to start moving again in a structured environment with a professional dance instructor. 

Here are a few mindset shifts you should have when returning to dance: 

  1. Patience and Understanding: Returning to dance after a break requires patience. Understand that it's normal to take time to regain your previous form. Be patient with yourself as you gradually rebuild your skills and stamina.

  2. Openness to Learning: Approach your return with an open mind. Embrace the opportunity to learn and relearn. Stay receptive to corrections and new techniques that may have developed during your hiatus.

  3. Listening to Your Body: Pay close attention to your body's signals. Start your dance practice at a manageable pace, and gradually increase intensity. Listening to your body helps prevent overexertion and reduces the risk of injuries.

  4. Appreciation for Progress: Focus on the progress you make rather than dwelling on what you may have lost during the break. Celebrate small achievements, and recognize that every step forward is a success on your dance journey.

  5. Passion and Enjoyment: Reconnect with the joy and passion that initially drew you to dance. Find pleasure in the process of moving and expressing yourself. Let the love for dance be your guiding force as you get back into the groove.

  6. Community and Support: Surround yourself with a supportive dance community. Share your experiences and challenges with others who understand the journey. Our studio is a supportive network can provide motivation and encouragement, making the return to dance more enjoyable.

  7. Consistency is Key: Establish a regular practice routine to rebuild muscle memory and improve overall fitness consistently. Our classes are a great platform if you want to have dance as a constant staple in your week to week. 

Remember, everyone's journey is unique, and it's okay to take things at your own pace. Enjoy the process of rediscovering the joy of dance! We offer a free trial class for ages 5 years to adults to drop into one of our classes. There are no strings attached and you have nothing to lose. The goal is to enjoy finding yourself again.
