3 Wedding Dance Mistakes To Avoid
Nov 29, 2023
Your wedding day is a momentous occasion filled with love, joy, and celebration. A significant part of south asian weddings are the dances. It's how we end the night! It's also a great way to get a lot of family/friends to participate in the big day if they didn't have a role otherwise. However, despite the excitement, there is a lot of planning involved in getting everyone to learn and practice a routine. I go over some of the common mistakes that people make when coordinating dances for their wedding to help you avoid any missteps on the dance floor.
1. Choreographing yourself. You're wasting precious wedding planning hours researching songs and trying to choreograph yourself. So you head to youtube to start looking up songs & dances. The only problem is that you went down a rabbit hole. It's 5 hours later and you have more options than you really need and you start to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. The more time spent on YouTube, more hours get wasted, and less time you have to actually get dances choreographed and taught.
What to do instead: Before you start researching, you want to narrow down dances/songs specifically made for Your event(sangeet/wedding).
2. Believing in person sessions are the only option. False. An in person choreographer is a great option but not the only solution to get all your dances choreographed and taught. Scheduling sessions with an instructor and family/friends all over the country can get tedious and expensive very quickly.
What to do instead: Time and money can be saved if everyone is able to learn the same exact thing on their own time
3. Having a friend or family member to coordinate all the dances. We see people opt for this solution all the time, which is great if you have someone with dancing/teaching experience in your circle. However, this puts pressure on that friend/family on the big day
What to do instead: It would be much easier and fun if everyone was learning and practicing together without the stress of trying to choreo and teach for a wedding
